My name is Freek van Zoest , I am born in 1993 in the Netherlands. I consider myself to be an associative thinker, a thinker in image. Mainly my art is explored on paper but in addition to drawing I am expanding my practice with sculptures of ceramic and wood, next to a prospect of painting with oil colours.

My artistic practice is highly driven by the use of symbolic language,  I think it is fascinating how significance or narrative can manifest inside every object or subject that exist around us. Symbolic representations are intriguing me, especially its power to alter its own significance when composed or combined with another. All the inspirations are expressed in a genre of art that I describe as surrealistic and mysterious with the capability to reveal itself as poetry.

During my research I am trying to find best possible representation for the idea that I want to express, I draw it over and over again to reach a clearer image of the ultimate. As a result the image is explored, refined and purified in the finest details of its own representation.

I have always wanted to create, and the moment of finishing a work can sometimes become a moment of transcendence, a moment where I feel the most satisfied. But to transcend, means that there also needs something to die. The finished work is able to reveal a certain disgust of death, which is always a motivation to create something new.
